Govt serious about peace talks, Nawaz tells Ulema Council

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said the government was serious about talks with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), aiming to bring peace to the country, Radio Pakistan reported.
During his meeting with a delegation of All Pakistan Ulema Council in Islamabad, the premier said demands made by the TTP were under consideration. He, however, added that nothing against the constitution will be accepted.
The prime minister also said that members of TTP not involved in militancy will be released, adding that the government wants to resolve all the issues through consultation.
To ensure peace in the society, Prime Minister Nawaz said the government was determined to address all the challenges and take necessary steps.
He said that extremism can be countered by following the teachings of Islam.
