Nurses protesting in front of the Punjab Assembly on Friday
were baton-charged and as a result, two nurses sustained critical
injuries and are currently in the ICU.
These nurses were protesting against the Health Department for firing nurses who had been working on contract or on ad-hock
basis.
The protest entered into its fifth day on Friday, initially staged outside the Federal Health Department.
The demonstration was later moved to the Punjab Assembly.
In response of the protest, the Punjab Health Adviser had stated that nurses will only be hired if they pass the Public Service Commission exams.
Correction: In an earlier version of this story it stated that a nurse had died but there are now conflicting reports . The error is regretted.
